News Release From Dec 6, 2016

The Archery in Louisiana Schools (ALAS) 2017 tournament season will feature two regional events in January and the state meet in March in Shreveport, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced.

The state meet will be held March 4 at the Shreveport Convention Center.

Two qualifying regionals will be held in January. The ALAS South Louisiana Regional will take place in Alexandria on Jan. 14 at the LSU Ag Center's State Evacuation Center. The North Louisiana Regional will be held Jan. 21 at the Shreveport Convention Center.

The ALAS, administered by LDWF, is part of the National Archery in Schools Program, which teaches international target style archery to students in grades 4-12.

To register for the 2017 events, go to www.nasptournaments.org. Rules for the tournaments can be found at www.nasparchery.com.

Approximately 1,100 students from schools throughout Louisiana participated in the 2016 ALAS tournaments. Thanks to ALAS sponsors, more than $17,000 was awarded in scholarships. ALAS is looking to partner with Louisiana businesses and organizations to continue to support student archers. For more information on sponsorship opportunities, contact NASP state coordinator Robert Stroede at rstroede@wlf.la.gov or 318-484-2276.
The ALAS program is also seeking volunteers to assist with the 2017 ALAS tournaments. Volunteers don't need previous experience but must be at least 16 and will view a training video prior to the event. Anyone interested in volunteering for any of the ALAS tournaments should contact southeast regional coordinator Jan McGovern at jmcgovern@wlf.la.gov or 985.543.4930.

The ALAS/NASP program is available to all schools in Louisiana and grants are available to assist with funding. For more information on the ALAS program, contact Robert Stroede at the number noted above.
